Sure it had rough edges but it was new and refreshing and years before BF:Hardline. The idea of playing the bad guy, switching between Kane and Lynch, Lynch's psychotic episodes, the Heat-style police shootouts. I bought the original Kane and Lynch years back and despite getting bad reviews, I really had a great time with the original game.
